Although there is a large amount of over the counter and prescription products, some people would rather take a more natural approach to fighting acne.
One herbal acne treatment is fenugreek seed. Fenugreek can be used for the prevention of skin infections like acne. To do this, boil a teaspoon of fenugreek seeds in a liter of water for few minutes. This water can be used for skin cleansing or a face wash.
Tea tree oil has antimicrobial properties. Since bacteria is in part to blame for the development of acne, it was thought that applying topical tea tree oil to acne lesions would kill the skin-dwelling bacteria that is involved in causing acne. It doesn’t work quite as well as benzoyl peroxide because it takes longer, but it does have fewer side effects like redness, over-drying and itching.
You must not use undiluted tea tree oil as it may lead to skin irritation, redness, blistering, over-drying, and itching when applied directly to the skin. You can make a 5% solution at home. Just mix 5 parts of tea tree oil to 95 parts of water. (For example: 5 mL tea tree oil and 95 mL water).
Green tea has also been proven to have anti-bacterial properties that reduce inflammation. It is capable of killing the bacteria that cause Bacterium acne. It has also been shown to decrease hormone activity, a leading cause of acne.
Green tea's antioxidants have been shown to be very beneficial to acne prevention. Antioxidants help fight free radicals that cause damage to cells and tissues in your body. In a study done in 2003, the results in treating acne were the same when comparing a green tea cream with 3% of green tea, to a 4% benzoyl peroxide solution. Green tea, when consumed, also helps detoxify your body from the inside out.
Many natural ingredients are available for the safe treatment of acne. Fruits like tomato, papaya and lemon are used to treat acne. Herbs such as garlic, mint, cinnamon, nutmeg, turmeric, radish and sesame seeds protect your skin against acne. Following are some natural remedies for treating acne:

Sugar is a big problem in the diets of many people. Like oxidants, which are a major cause of aging, excess sugar in the blood is also damaging. Sugar in the blood attaches to proteins until they no longer function properly. All the cells in our bodies are partly made of protein. If the protein is coated with glucose, it cannot do its job.
Excess glucose can have a measurable effect on your skin. The skin is largely made up of collagen. Collagen makes up about 40 per cent of the body's proteins, so if it’s damaged the skin takes on an aged appearance. These changes also affect how the skin cells are nourished, supplied with oxygen and how waste is removed. This has an effect on the way they work and look. In addition, people with acne have been shown to poorly process sugar.
Unused sugar is turned to fat in our bodies. These fats can decrease the oxygen supply to cells, particularly those on the surface. Sugar interferes with the way the body uses vitamin C, which is needed for the formation of collagen and elastin .
With a combination for proper diet and herbal treatments, you may find a thoroughly efficient way of treating your acne, and getting your body into better shape also, without having to swallow a single pill.
