1. Homemade Clay Masks

Clay masks are soothing and healing to the skin. It is easy to get green clay (bentonite clay) from any health-food store. Clay comes in powder form. Add some water if your skin is oily, or add jojoba oil if your skin is dry, or milk if your skin is just on average, to produce a workable mask.

Ingredients needed:

Bentonite or green clay (if pores and skin is sensitive, French green clay is really a great choice)

1 tsp honey

water (oily skin), half milk and half water (mixed type of skin), or jojoba oil (for dry epidermis)

Optional: your favorite vital oil

Preparation:

For best result, mix 2 parts liquid to 1 part clay.

Choose what liquid is best for your type of skin.

Mix a bit of honey.

Add much more liquid if clay is dry.

Add a few drops of the vital oil (this step is optional).

Keep mask on your face for 15 minutes.

Rinse the mask off with a steamed washcloth

2. Simple Mask for Oily, Acne-Prone Skin

Based on Begoun, in her well-known book, Milk of Magnesia is a liquid magnesium. Like clay, it is from the earth, but has disinfecting qualities and absorbs oil greater than clay. A friend of mine tried this and said her pores and skin never felt far better. She loved the normal qualities on the mask, which she doesn’t find in stores.

Ingredients:

1 bottle of Milk of Magnesia (no flavors, please)

Preparation:

Apply the Milk of Magnesia to face.

Wash with cool washcloth after 10-15 minutes.

Strawberry Mask For Acne-Prone Skin

Why purchase acne solutions when you can use strawberries? Strawberries are an organic source of salicylic acid which is observed in most over-the-counter acne medicines, based on Janice Cox, the author of “Natural Beauty at House.” This is Cox’s recipe. The yogurt is wonderful for soothing skin.

Ingredients:

1/4 cup strawberries (fresh, not frozen please)

1/4 cup sour cream or non-flavored yogurt

Preparation:

Mix the strawberries and yogurt or sour cream together. Spread on face and wash after 10-15 minutes.
